Vote Projections for 19 August 2008

Polls are showing the presidential race tightening over the last week, likely due to McCain outspending Obama in swing states on ads. Obama was on vacation and McCain took the opportunity to attack. Obama still maintains about a 2-3 point national lead and a slim lead in the electoral votes of 286 to 246. New polls over the last week show McCain with small leads in several states that recently were for Obama, including Colorado, Missouri, Virginia and Indiana. Florida and North Carolina are now in the McCain camp as well.

The veepstakes are the #1 story right now with the Democratic front runners being Joe Biden (Senator, DE), Tim Kaine (Governor, VA), and Evan Baye (Senator, IN). Joe Biden seems to have the inside track as he provides significant foreign policy experience and would be effective in going on the attach against the Republicans and McCain. Obama will likely announce his VP pick tomorrow or Thursday. McCain's choice is less clear, but would likely be Mitt Romney (former Governor, MA), Tim Pawlenty (Governor, MN), Tom Ridge (former Governor, PA) or Joe Lieberman (Senator, CT). McCain will not announce his VP until after the Democratic National Committee convention next week.

No changes to the Senate projections, with Democrats still gaining 5 seats.

How come you still have Ohio blue when the most recent polls have it a tie and +5 for McCain.

Average the last 3 out, and McCain is still winning.

And an August 11 Rasmussen Poll in Nevada had McCain up 48-45: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/nevada/election_2008_nevada_presidential_election

May want to redo your projections.

Thanks for the comment spread the word!!! The Ohio poll showing +5 for McCain did not get into my latest update, and I have updated Nevada to include the poll you referenced. McCain now has 271 to Obama's 261.
